There is nothing better than enjoying a lobster roll in the summer, but for those of us that live anywhere other than a coastal state, it’s not something that we’re able to regularly enjoy! However, lobster rolls are so much easier to make at home than you would think.
Where Can I Find High-Quality Lobster?
I buy my seafood from Whole Foods or the seafood counter at my local high-end grocery store. If you don’t have access to either, ask the seafood counter at your grocery store if they would be willing to order lobster tails for you.
What about split-top brioche buns?
If you can’t find premade split-top buns, take regular hot dog buns and slice off a tiny sliver of the top and sides of the bun to make it flat.
Okay, I found lobster tails, but how the heck do I cook them?
- Butterfly the lobster tails. This method helps steam penetrate more evenly. To butterfly, take kitchen shears and cut down the center of the top of the shell (careful not to cut the meat). Gently lift the meat above the shell while keeping it attached at the end.
- Pour 1-2 inches of water in a large stock pot and bring to a boil. Place steamer basket and butterflied lobster tails in and cover with a lid. For 4 oz lobster tails, steam for about 5-6 minutes, or until the shells are bright red and the lobster meat is white and opaque.
I’ve linked a video from my Instagram page showing you exactly how to make this entire recipe! I hope you enjoy. Please let me know if you make these!
